Time Expressions: تعابير الوقت

Ago, For and Since

Use the simple past tense when the exact time is given:

استخدم الزمن الماضي البسيط عندما يتم إعطاء الوقت المحدد

الكلمات التالية تخبرك بالوقت المحدد:

yesterday, two days ago, last week/month/year.

Use the present perfect simple tense with for to indicate the duration of the action:

ملاحظة: يُسمى المضارع التام البسيط في بعض كتب القواعد بـ المضارع التام, بدون كلمة بسيط.

استخدم المضارع التام التام للإشارة إلى مُدة الحدث:

الكلمات التالية تخبرك بـمُدة الحدث:

for two months, for a year, for a long time.

Use the present perfect simple with since to indicate when the action began:

أيضا استخدم المضارع التام للإشارة إلى متى بدأ الحدث.

الكلمات التالية تخبرك (متى بدأ الحدث):

 since yesterday, since last June.

Simple Past الماضي البسيط

In 1908, a small asteroid exploded over Siberia.
We moved to Muscat three years ago.
She didn’t call her mother last night.

في عام 1908 ، انفجر كويكب صغير فوق سيبيريا.

انتقلنا إلى مسقط قبل ثلاث سنوات.

لم تتصل بأمها الليلة الماضية.

Present Perfect المُضارع التام

He has worked as a scientist for many years.

We have lived in Muscat since May.

We haven’t used our car for a long time.

لقد عمل كعالِم لـسنوات عديدة.

لقد عشنا في مسقط منذ شهر مايو.

لم نستخدم سيارتنا لـفترة طويلة.

Expressing Ability, Permission and Requests

Ability المقدرة

Use can to express ability in the present.

استخدم can للتعبير عن المقدرة في الحاضر.

الأمثلة:

Can the robot do my homework for me?
No, it can’t. You can do it yourself!

هل يستطيع الروبوت أداء واجبي المنزلي؟

لا ، لا يمكن. تستطيع فعلها بنفسك!

Use could to express ability in the past.

استخدم could للتعبير عن المقدرة في الماضي.

الأمثلة:

Could people travel long distances before the airplane was invented?
Yes, they could. They traveled by ship.

هل تمكن للناس السفر لمسافات طويلة قبل اختراع الطائرة؟

نعم ، أمكنهم ذلك. سافروا عن طريق السفن.

Permission السماح , الاذن, الرخصة

Use may and can to express permission.

استخدم may و can للتعبير عن الإذن (السماح).

May I leave early today? Yes, you may. / No, you may not.

Can I have another soda? Yes, you can. / No, you can’t.

هل يمكنني المغادرة مبكرا اليوم؟ نعم انت تستطيع. / لا ، لا يجوز لك.

هل أستطيع الحصول على صودا أخرى؟ نعم تستطيع. / لا ، لا يمكنك ذلك.

Requests الطلبات

Use can and could to make polite requests. Could is more formal.

استخدم can و could لإنشاء طلبات مؤدبة. 

كلمة could رسمية أكثير من can

الأمثلة:

Could you fill in this form, please? Yes, of course.

هل يمكنك ملء هذا النموذج من فضلك؟ نعم طبعا.

Can you help me? Sure. / Not now. I’m busy.

هل يمكنك مساعدتي؟ بالتأكيد. / ليس الان. أنا مشغول.

Could you open the window? Certainly. / Sorry, I can’t.

هل يمكن فتح نافذة؟ من المؤكد. / عذرا ، لا أستطيع ذلك.
