Can’t, Could, Couldn’t, Must, May, or Might

Use can’t, must, may, or might to make suppositions, to speculate about something, and to draw conclusions.

لا يمكن استخدام can’t, must, may, might للافتراضات، أو للتخمين بشأن شيء ما ، ولاستخلاص استنتاجات.

Use must to say we are sure of something.

نستخدم must لـنقول أننا متأكدين من شيء ما.

Use can’t or couldn’t to say that we think something is impossible. 

نستخدم can’t أو couldn’t  لنقول أننا نعتقد بأن  شيئًا ما مستحيلًا.

Use may, might, or could to say that something is possible.

نستخدم  may أو might أو could لنقول أن شيئًا ما ممكنًا.

الأمثلة:

The story about the green aliens can’t be true. It might be a prank. It must be April 1st! (present)

قصة المخلوقات الفضائية الخضراء لا يمكن أن تكون حقيقية. قد تكون مزحة. يجب أن يكون الأول من أبريل! (حاضر)

The story about the green aliens can’t have been true. It might have been a prank. It must have been April 1st! (past)

قصة المخلوقات الفضائية الخضراء لا يمكن أن تكون حقيقية. ربما كانت مزحة. لابد أنه كان الأول من أبريل! (ماضي)
