Comparative Forms of Adjectives and Adverbs
صيغ المُقارنة للصفات وظروف الحال
The comparative form of most one syllable adjectives and adverbs is formed by adding –er:
أغلب الصفات التي لها مقطع واحد يُضاف لها er في المقارنة.
slow—slower; fast—faster; hard—harder.
Some comparative forms of adjectives are irregular:
بعض صيغ المقارنة شاذة (غير منظمة) لا تنطبق عليها القاعدة, بل يتغير شكل الكلمة كلها.
good—better; bad—worse
The comparative form of most two or more syllable adjectives and adverbs is formed by adding more:
إذا كانت الصفة طويلة بحيث تحتوي على مقطعين فأكثر فإنها تُسبق بـ more في المُقارنة.
difficult—more difficult; carefully—more carefully.
Adjective Comparative صفة المُقارنة
The youngest athlete was faster than all the others. Football is more thrilling than basketball.
كان أصغر رياضي أسرع من الآخرين. كرة القدم هي أكثر إثارة من كرة السلة.
Adverb Comparative ظرف حال المقارنة
The man climbed higher and higher up the mountain.
صعد الرجل أعلى وأعلى الجبل.
The earthquake got stronger and the walls shook more violently.
اشتد الزلزال واهتزت الجدران بقوة أكبر.
Than and As … As
Use than to compare two people, animals, things, ideas or situations.
استخدم than للمُقارنة بين اثنين شخصين أو حيوانين أو أشيئين أو فكرتين أو موقفيْن.
مثال:
That athlete trains harder than all the other athletes.
هذا الرياضي يتدرب بجهد أكبر من كل الرياضيين الآخرين.
Use as … as to show two items are the same in some way.
استخدم as … as لإظهار عنصرين متشابهين بطريقة ما.
مثال:
Skiing is as dangerous as snowboarding.
التزلج خطير مثل التزلج على الجليد.
Use not as … as to show two items are not the same in some way.
اتستخدم not as … as لإظهار عنصرين مختلفين بطريقة ما.
مثال:
The fold-up bicycle is not as bulky as a regular bicycle.
الدراجة القابلة للطي ليست ضخمة مثل الدراجة العادية.
